We Should Congratulate Ourselves, Too

As I stood over the sink in the kitchen at work, the thoughts began to roll...

I have always felt that I never had any good reason to write a blog. Nor have I ever felt that I knew enough about any particular subject to write a blog and go on braying like a jackass on the Internet. (Those who know me know that I do not enjoy braying on the Internet like a jackass.) But today is some thing different. Excuse my pride, but this is history...

I was surprised this morning that my 70-year old Sri Lankan boss brought a 32-inch television from her house for everyone to watch this event. (She's 4'7 by the way!) While watching the spectacular coverage courtesy of ABC, it had begun to sink in just how much of an important happening this was to the rest of the globe. There were shots of school children where it was nearing midnight in there native land, yet they had stayed up just to watch...

Having been able to vote was a dubious honor, privilege, and cherished moment. Having been able to walk down the streets in my neighborhood as if my "I Voted" sticker made me a member of the high court and so on...

Now here comes the worry. We can not screw this up. White people be advised. Do not make yourselves seem full of shit. Your conscience must remain clear from here on out. We can do this together. Please do not ruin this. You can do this. And we will help you. We will help each other...

I was prepared to set up shop in France at the embarrassment that was(!) Bush Administration but I'm proud of ourselves so I suppose I'll stay for a while (*smiles*)....
